When windows overlap, Mission Control shows windows across apps and Spaces; App Exposé narrows the view to the current app. In Preview, use Control-Down Arrow to compare open documents; if you do not know which app has the file, use Control-Up Arrow for the broader overview. Choose the view for the search

Open Mission Control with Control-Up Arrow or a three-finger swipe up. Use Control-Down Arrow for windows in the current app; the downward App Exposé gesture must be enabled in Trackpad settings. Click a window preview or desktop in the Spaces bar to switch to it.

If a window or shortcut seems missing

Check the Spaces bar for another desktop or full-screen app. If a gesture fails, review System Settings > Trackpad > More Gestures; if a shortcut differs, check Keyboard Shortcuts > Mission Control. A display shows only its own active windows and Spaces, so open Mission Control on the other screen when needed. Apple’s display guidance

Use App Exposé to choose among one app’s documents and Mission Control to switch apps or Spaces. Selecting a preview brings that window forward while the others stay open. Macworld’s gesture guide
